Pixel 6a dummy emerges with in-display fingerprint scanner

Now that the Pixel 6 is here and well established, the company will focus on the next big thing – the Pixel 6a series. The more affordable version of the Pixel smartphones should arrive sometime in the next year, and as usual, the first rumors are popping out already. According to reports, the Pixel 6a will stick with older sensors for its cameras. However, it will bring the same design language introduced with the Pixel 6 series. After a couple of leaked renders, we have an aluminum dummy alongside other key details.

These dummies usually arrive ahead of the smartphones so the case and accessory makers can make their products with proper alignment and design. The dummy clearly shows the camera bar that resembles the vanilla Pixel 6. The device will sport two cameras on the left and an LED flash on the right side. These cameras will use the Pixel series older sensors – a 12.2 MP camera with Sony IMX363 for the main module and 12 MP IMX355 for the ultrawide snapper.

Moving around to the front, the device seems to bring the usual punch-hole design. However, Fathom Bracelets and @xleaks7 – the minds behind this leak – suggest that the Pixel 6a will have thick bezels and will not be in line with the Pixel 6’s slim bezels profile. There is also a circle on the screen that should be used for the in-display fingerprint scanner. This is an interesting advancement since previous Pixel a-series smartphones had rear-mounted fingerprint scanners. This will be the first time that a Pixel a-series will sport an in-display scanner. With previous generations, this has been a cost-cutting measure, but apparently, Pixel s ready to bring this to its mid-range category.

Pixel 6a alleged specifications

We can conclude that Pixel 6a will already be much better than its predecessors. In fact, this makes sense as the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are much better than previous generations of Pixel smartphones. To make things even more interesting, Google is expected to equip the Pixel 6a with the same Tensor chip as the flagship models. So, the company is clearly doing something that Apple does with its iPhone SE series. Bringing the same flagship-level performance to a lower-price point. The Tensor chip may not be on par with the 2022 gang of flagship SoCs but is much better than the Snapdragon 765G.

Current rumors suggest that the Pixel 6a will be unveiled in August and will have a 6.2-inch OLED panel. It will be more compact than the Pixel 6, plus 6 / 8GB of RAM and 128 GB of Internal Storage. As usual, it won’t bring microSD card support. The device will also bring 5G connectivity which will be a must for premium devices in 2022.
