Many users have awakened today with the big surprise that their Amazon
Alexa-powered devices were silent.
Amazon's popular smart voice assistant was silent and not responding to some requests. According to the
reports, Alexa is refusing to work. When you ask a question, the blue light ring on the Echo speakers are showing that the question is registered. However, shortly thereafter the ring glows red and Alexa remains silent.
Usually, the red rings light up to indicate that the speaker microphone is muted. Now, however, this does not seem to be the case with those who reported the error. For now, the problem is affecting Alexa users in Germany. However, some reports indicate that there are users in the entire world suffering from the same issue.
Amazon took a while to and didn't give clear explanations to justify the reason behind this problem. For a long time, the company remained silent just like Alexa. Curiously, the mail-order company's service dashboard was showing that all services were running smoothly earlier today. The service, in fact, seemed to be working. After all, a question about the current weather on the Echo Show brought up the current weather report on the display. However, the voice output was absent.
The reports indicated that Amazon has addressed the issue a few hours after the initial reports. The reason for the disruption, however, remains a mystery. The company's statement only says "This morning a problem prevented some customers from interacting with Alexa. The service is now working as usual again".
Amazon Alexa told a child to do a potentially lethal challenge
A curious case
involving Alexa emerged a couple of weeks ago. Amazon's voice assistant has given dangerous instructions to a kid when she asked for a challenge. Alexa replied with the following instructions:
“Here's something I found on the web. According to ourcommunitynow.com: The challenge is simple. Plug a phone charger halfway into an outlet, then tap a coin to the exposed pins.”
This challenge/prank has been shared on social media through 2020. During these times, many people took to social media to advise kids and their parents about the risks involving this challenge. In addition to the risk of fire, the action could bring harm to one's health, loss of fingers, hand, or even the entire arm.
The children's mom, Livdahl, said, however, that his daughter refused to comply with the instructions. The case became popular, and Amazon issued an update to fix the dangerous behavior.
