Xiaomi 12 Extreme Edition to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus SoC

Xiaomi 12 mini

According to popular Webio leakster, @DCS, a new Xiaomi device (L2S) got certified. This smartphone comes with model number 2206122SC and uses Qualcomm’s latest SM8475 processor. The positioning of this smartphone is higher than the Xiaomi 12 Pro. The company will officially release this device in Q3 2022. Last year (Xiaomi Mi 11 series), there was no model with the S letter as we have in the latest L2S. However, in 2020 (Xiaomi Mi 1o series), there was a model code-named J1S. This model eventually became the Xiaomi Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition. There is already confirmation that L2S will not belong to the Xiaomi 12 Pro, it will be higher and the chip is stronger. This sparks speculation that this device will be the Xiaomi 12 Extreme Edition.

However, there is also a possibility that this device could be the Xiaomi 12S Pro. Whether it is the Xiaomi 12 Extreme Edition or Xiaomi 12S Pro, it is stronger than the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

Qualcomm SM8475 will be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 made by TSMC’s 4nm process. The overall architecture may not change much, but the high frequency may be improved again. The overall performance will also be better.

Gizchina News of the week

This device will not be the Xiaomi 12 Ultra which has been in the news several times. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is confirmed to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The main upgrade point for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is the camera. This smartphone will not upgrade the chip to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. This rules out the possibility of the L2S being the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra will launch after the Redmi K50 which will arrive in March. Thus, we should have the Xiaomi 12 Ultra between April and May this year.

Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphones

On February 16th, Lu Weibing released the first product of the new generation of the Redmi K50 series – the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition. This device comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, supplemented by LPDDR5 memory + UFS 3.1 flash memory. It also uses a side fingerprint sensor as well as the first AAC CyberEngine ultra-wideband X-axis motor-1016. In addition, Xiaomi has some new phones on the way. We are expecting the Redmi K50 Standard Edition series, Xiaomi 12 Ultra, Xiaomi  MIX 5 / Pro, and most recently Xiaomi 12 Extreme Edition.

All the upcoming flagships above will come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. However, the Xiaomi 12 Extreme Edition will probably use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship processor. Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chip is code-named SM8450, and the optimized Plus version is SM8475, which is expected to use TSMC’s 4nm process.
