Motorola Edge Plus 2022 is the US version of Edge 30 Pro

After much anticipation, Motorola finally unveiled its first 2022 flagship smartphone for the global markets. The Motorola Edge 30 Pro was unveiled as the company’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered smartphone for global markets. The device, as expected, is a rebadged version of the China-exclusive Motorola Edge X30. However, it’s not reaching the United States with the same name. Motorola decided to apply a second rebadge, and in the United States, the device will be sold as Motorola Edge Plus 2022. That certainly is a mouthful name. Unfortunately, the device also has its downgrades.

The Motorola Edge Plus 2022 is basically the same smartphone, except for the charging speed. While the Motorola Edge 30 Pro offers 68 W fast-charging, which was a remarkable upgrade in Motorola’s story, the US-exclusive version gets slower 30 W charging. That is almost half of the originally-offered speed. This may not be a big problem for certain customers in the US. After all, the country certainly lacks flagship options with high-charging speeds. For instance, the Apple devices can’t even reach 30W, and Samsung’s recent-released Galaxy S22 can go up to 25W, while the big ones can reach 45W which is slightly faster.

The Motorola Edge Plus 2022 will offer C-ban compatible sub-6 GHz 5G connectivity while Verizon models will do mmWave. Apart from that, the key specifications are identical to the Motorola Edge 30 Pro.

Motorola Edge Plus 2022 specifications

The Motorola Edge Plus 2022 flaunts a 6.7-inch Full HD+ P-OLED screen with a speedy 144 Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the phone carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. It comes with 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM and has up to 512 GB of Internal Storage. In terms of camera, the phone features a 50 MP main sensor, alongside a 50 MP ultrawide camera, and a 2 MP depth helper. The phone has a centered-punch-hole cutout that serves a 60 MP snapper. Motorola is also selling a Smart Stylus accessory.

The handset runs Android 12 straight out of the box with Motorola’s MyUX interface. The phone also comes with the “ReadyFor” platform for connecting to external monitors. It’s basically Motorola’s take on Samsung DeX. Interestingly, for this device, Motorola promises two years of major Android OS updates. If you recall, the company had been very reluctant in offering more than one update to its flagships. Last year, the company said that “no one is keeping a smartphone for more than one year.”

Pricing and Availability

Motorola Edge Plus 2022 is available in Cosmos Blue and Stardust White colors. It costs $999 and there is a $100 discount on pre-orders. Users can register interest on Motorola’s US website and expect to see the device in Verizon, Boost Mobile, and Republic Wireless stores too.
