Xiaomi 12 Lite won’t be launched in China

The first rumors about the Xiaomi 12 series have been suggesting the launch of the Xiaomi 12 Lite and 12 Lite Zoom. The rumors said that both devices were in development within Xiaomi company since October 2021. Previously, it said there will be two models, one of which will be available in all important markets (China, India, Europe). However, the other will be limited to China.

Xiaomi 12 Lite won’t reach China

However, back in the last week, news broke out that Xiaomi will be launching only one model from Xiaomi 12 Lite series. The model will now only be exclusively available as a “Global variant”. As of today, the big questions about the availability of the handset in the Chinese market have been officially answered by a Xiaomi Senior Executive in China. According to Xiaomi Civi Senior Product Manager, Xinxin_MIa on Weibo, the 12 Lite has been canceled for release in the Chinese market. The executive replied through a post on the social media network. When a Xiaomi fan asked if she would appear at the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Lite launch event, she replied bluntly: “There is no Xiaomi 12 Lite anymore”.

Apparently, the rumors from last week were accurate. The 12 Lite won’t reach the Chinese market. However, it now leaves a big interrogation in our minds. After all, is the Xiaomi 12 Lite still coming for Global markets? Or has the device been canceled for everyone? The question will keep floating around unless Xiaomi comes and provides a proper answer. Worth noting, that at the time of this writing, the Xiaomi 123 series is not yet available on global markets. If the Xiaomi 12 Lite is coming, then the company will likely use the global launch event to bring the Lite variant. Worth noting that this global event seems to be close as the pricing info for Europe has leaked.

Alleged specifications

For a smartphone that isn’t available and there is not even an estimated launch date, we already have a handful of details about it. As per the rumors, the smartphone will pack a 6.55-inch AMOLED Full HD display. It will offer a 120 Hz refresh rate and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The device may sport a curved edge display like the China-exclusive Xiaomi Civi, which debuted in September 2021.

The 12 Lite will pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC. That is a possibility, but other rumors have been suggesting even something more powerful in the Snapdragon 7 series chipset. We could see the return of the Snapdragon 780G which disappeared amidst the semiconductor shortage. The other possibility is the debut of the rumored Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. This rumored SoC will mark the rebranding of the 700 series to follow up the flagship offerings. Anyway, the phone will pack a triple-camera setup with a main 64 MP snapper. The other sensors will be an ultrawide snapper and a macro camera.

There are even renders suggesting the device’s design.
