Another Data Breach At Plex: This Becomes A Common Thing

Plex Data Breach

The data breach has become a common thing. Any company in the world can become a target for attackers. The reasons behind them vary from the hacker to hacker. We mean hackers can sell the stolen data, use themselves, etc. Today, Plex, the popular home media server software, issued a statement saying the data breach had affected some of its users’ personal data. The company has already sent emails telling what happened and how to act.

Data breach

The leaked data includes email addresses, usernames, and encrypted passwords. Fortunately, there is no credit card information.

Gizchina News of the week

“Yesterday, we discovered suspicious activity on one of our databases. We immediately began an investigation and it does appear that a third-party was able to access a limited subset of data that includes emails, usernames, and encrypted passwords. Even though all account passwords that could have been accessed were hashed and secured in accordance with best practices, out of an abundance of caution we are requiring all Plex accounts to have their password reset. Rest assured that credit card and other payment data are not stored on our servers at all and were not vulnerable in this incident.”

How To Protect Your Account In Case Of Data Breach

We will learn more details about this data breach in the coming days. But as for now, we recommend you create a new password for your accounts. Also, you should change your email password.

Once done, there is a checkbox to log out of any connected devices and services. Check it too. After all these steps, you can log back into any of your Plex media servers.

We understand that many users will begin not to trust similar services, as it happens too frequently. But this is the digital world we are living in. And even top tech companies are not able to avoid data breach and similar accidents.
