ZTE Axon 30S brings in-display camera and SD870 for $238

ZTE certainly has its own spot in the market thanks to the under-display camera technology. The company has been a pioneer of this technology, and for the time being, is the only one actively betting on it. Samsung has some smartphones with under-display cameras but is still not ready to deploy them on a large scale. It’s up to you to decide if ZTE’s tech is mature enough, but the company is clearly expanding it! Today, a new ZTE Axon 30S arrives with an in-display camera and competitive pricing.

ZTE Axon 30S specifications

The ZTE Axon 30S is a slightly upgraded version of the ZTE Axon 30. The goal apparently is to bring the under-display camera to more users, hence, it’s quite affordable. The phone packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC. The chipset is aging at this point, but can still handle anything on Google Play Store without any trouble. Moreover, it’s still powerful enough to run demanding games without issues. The phone comes with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of Internal Storage.

The ZTE Axon 30S flaunts a 6.92-inch 10-bit OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. Moreover, there is a 16 MP under-display camera at the top, and a UD fingerprint scanner. The phone has a triple-camera setup at the rear. It comprises a 64 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide shooter, and a 5 MP macro lens. The setup is adequate for the pricing point.

The battery inside the ZTE Axon 30S is not really impressive. We have a 4,200 mAh battery which is just the standard nowadays. It comes with 55W charging, and thankfully, ZTE ships the phone with the charger. In terms of software, the phone still runs on Android 12. Furthermore, it has ZTE’s MyOS running on top. It may be eligible for Android 13 in the future.

Pricing and Availability

The base ZTE Axon 30S model costs CNY 1,698 ($238) and brings 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of Storage. The higher model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of Storage costs CNY 2,198 ($308). The phone is available in Black or Blue colorways. Unfortunately, there is no word on international availability. However, we expect the device to make its way to other countries soon.

Worth noting that those who need something with 2023 flagship specs, can opt for the ZTE Axon 40 series. These devices are available across global markets with newer processors and under-screen cameras.
