Oppo comments Nokia lawsuit reports in Australia

Nokia and Oppo

We’ve seen a lot of conflicts in the industry involving patent infringement. They come and go, and the latest episode involves Nokia and Oppo. Yes, Nokia is committed to suing Oppo in several markets. A recent lawsuit pushed Oppo out of the German market. The reason? patent violation. The court ruled out two lawsuits in favor of Nokia. As a result, the two Chinese brands are now out of the country. Now, the Finish brand is trying the same in Australia.

As per a new report, the Finish brand is suing the Chinese brand in Australia. The Finish company accuses Oppo of violating its Service Enablement Platform. It covers the company’s 4G and 5G tech. This may turn out into another problem for Oppo.

Due to the legal decision, Oppo phone sales are on a halt in Germany. We expect the same to happen in Australia if the court follows the European country’s decision.

Worth remembering, that Oppo and Nokia had a patent agreement. The problem is that this agreement expired in 2021. Now, Nokia is committed to punishing Oppo in all possible markets. When it comes to the latest episode in Australia, an Oppo left the following response:

Gizchina News of the week

“So far, we have not been notified of any legal actions against OPPO in Australia. We continue operating normally in all markets except for Germany.”

For now, Oppo users in Australia may not suffer from any consequences. For sure, we’ll need to keep an eye on this case. Hopefully, the companies will find a way to extend their former agreement. Therefore, Oppo can keep selling its products in those markets.

When it comes to the overall phone market, Nokia is not as relevant as some of the Chinese brands nowadays. The Finish brand has been trying to firm its presence. The company has just timely releases from time and time. Anyway, it still holds a multitude of patents. Moreover, it is also a key provider of 4G and 5G tech across the world. Therefore, it has a certain power in the market.

Worth noting that Oppo’s representative also mentions some “negotiations”. Apparently, the two are trying to find a new agreement. We don’t know exactly why the two brands did not extend the agreement in 2021. Perhaps, it was an individual decision, maybe on Oppo’s part. Now, the Chinese brand is dealing with the consequences. The Finish brand basically began a “crusade” against the Chinese phone maker.

We are curious to see how this case will evolve in the coming weeks.
