Android 13 has introduced a new feature that allows users to switch audio playback between wireless speakers. This feature even works using the lock screen widget and updated notification.
At the moment, this feature works with YouTube and YouTube Music. But Google and Spotify have announced that they are working to enable it for Spotify Connect devices as well. In addition to this, the team at Google is working to improve the feature. And make it easier to switch between speakers in different locations.
For example, if you are listening to a podcast in your car. You can easily switch to listening on headphones when you arrive at your destination. And then switch back to your TV or a speaker when you return home. This technology uses three layers. These layers detect and connect to nearby devices using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and UWB (Ultra-Wide Band).
The system automatically identifies the capabilities of those devices, and adjust the system based on your interactions with them. This should be a very interesting innovation for Android smartphone users. Since it is already available on Google platforms such as YouTube Music, we hope to see this on other audio streaming platforms.
As stated earlier, this feature is an Android 13 exclusive feature. Which basically means, if you are on any Android version older than Android 13, you may have to upgrade in order to enjoy this feature.
