There have been numerous leaks and rumors regarding the Facebook Watch, which has been a hot topic for some time. However, at Meta, the plan was changed last year, and the project was abandoned. A smartwatch is still in developpment, though.

Meta is preparing a smartwatch running Android

If the information and images from Kuba Wojciechowski are accurate, Meta has designed an Android smartwatch. Meta has chosen a custom version of Android for its own wearable instead of WearOS.

At first sight, it somewhat reminds us of the Apple Watch. But there is also a tiny camera visible on the front, and there is even a camera present on the rear.

A smart watch with two cameras, perhaps? Through Meta? Who knows? regarding the metaverse? And to whom is this meant to appeal? we don’t yet know for sure.

Additionally, with a focus on the idea and philosophy, it appears that every product of Mera seems to have the metaverse in mind.

However, given that the Meta smartwatch is probably still in its early phases of development, again, that could not mean much right now. Kuba Wojciechowski states that he does not know “if or when the device will launch”.

If you’re even slightly excited by the entirely non-creepy idea of a dual-camera Meta watch, you should be aware that the most recent version under development resembles the version that was canceled and runs an undisclosed version of Wear OS on Qualcomm hardware.

The sensor array on the rear appears to have undergone some minor changes in comparison to leaked renderings of the initial Facebook smartwatch concept, but the overall idea of a “detachable form factor” intended to be used for “additional Metaverse-related products” has not changed.

In conclusion, we should note take this information seriously. Because the development of the smartwatch is still in its first stages. For better or worse, it appears that Meta is still debating entering the fiercely competitive smartwatch industry. Apple is largely dominating this market.
