Gmail interface gets a new design for foldable phones

Before 2019, the mobile phone industry did not know much about foldable mobile phones. For this reason, all the mobile apps in app stores are designed for regular mobile phones or tablets. Foldable phones are not in any way regular mobile phones. They are more complex and many apps require some sort of optimization before they can work properly on foldable phones. For many people, foldable phones should simply support apps that work on tablets and other large-screen mobile phones. With new software tools, they get improved from time to time. The early foldable phones had to cope with some glitches in the apps that they use. However, recent updates are now making these apps compatible with the two screens. The latest app to get an update which makes it suitable for foldable phones is Google Gmail.

The Gmail software on foldable phones to not appear sleek. It appears spread-out because it’s optimized for regular phones. Users of folding phones (book-style phones) like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 will now see a 2-pane arrangement for Gmail. Thanks to a redesign of the user interface by Google. Meet and Chat also offers the 2-pane view. This means that the mailbox will appear on the foldable screen’s left side. Also, a viewed email will appear on its right. From a multitasking standpoint, this makes logic and will reduce the amount of back and forth when looking through texts. Regarding the new update, the company said

“As part of our mission to provide a top-class user experience on large screen devices, Android foldable-device users have been able to access a 2-pane view for Google Meet and Gmail. We’re excited to announce this also includes the Chat tab in the Gmail app. | This is now available. Google Workspace”

Above the inbox is a search window, and the first part of the page also has a compose button. The bottom strip fills the full screen’s breadth. On mobile phones, on the other hand, you see a vertical control rail. Small details like these contribute to giving foldable phones a unique personality.

For foldable phones, the redesigned interface is now accessible. Google has recently increased its attention to flexible devices and tablets. In late 2021, the company unveiled Android 12L, an OS designed specifically for tablets, with the goal of improving software usability on large-screen devices.

It includes minor changes and improvements that better utilize bigger screens. Just like a taskbar that enables users to rapidly start apps.
