Talking of benefits, a new update is coming to make things a lot easier. WhatsApp is trying to help users identify contacts as easier and faster as possible. Recently, the company released an update that replaces phone numbers with usernames in group chats. WhatsApp wants to enhance that feature with custom display pictures.
According to WABetainfo, the messaging platform is currently working on the update version 2.23.6.12. The new feature is said to be called Profile Icons and is currently available to beta testers to test it in group chats.
Currently, this feature is under development for Android users but the beta is already released for iOS users.

To see this feature in action, users will have to open group chats first. With this feature, you will realize that all users who have hidden their profile pictures or do not have profile pictures will not have custom profile pictures. This will help in easily identifying every user in a group conversation.
One way this feature will become very useful would be groups where some users have the same name. Since WhatsApp is replacing phone numbers with usernames, it will be quite difficult in identifying users with the same usernames. Thanks to the Profile Icon feature, identifying such members will be less of a hustle.
