What’s Your Reflection? Snapchat Introduces Augmented-Reality Mirrors to US Retailers

Snapchat AR mirrors

Recently, Snap said it would bring AR mirrors to stores. These will allow customers to instantly see how clothes will look on them without physically trying them on. The mirrors will be available in some Nike stores in the US later this year, as well as at the Men’s Wearhouse in Paramus, New Jersey.

The mirrors are part of Snap’s new push to expand beyond the AR glasses available in the Snapchat app and begin delivering AR items in the real world. The company announced today that it is developing AR solutions for music festivals and vending machines.

“Our goal is to have people use their time more efficiently in the world instead of getting immersed in a virtual one,” says Bobby Murphy, Snap’s chief technology officer.

But this is nothing new. Last October, it began testing the AR mirrors at Nike’s Williamsburg store in New York, allowing consumers to digitally try on Nike clothing and receive discounts by playing an AR game. It succeeded, and Nike is now installing the technology in other locations across the US.

Besides this, we should note that GPT has reached Snapchat. Previously, it was accused of making messages disappear. Yesterday, however, the company announced a chatbot called ‘My AI.’ It will be accessible to all 750 million of its monthly subscribers. To recap, the chatbot has been testing with three million premium members since March.

As Snap said, My AI has become increasingly popular. It has been able to handle more than 2mln conversations a day. Imagine that.

Those who have tested it prove that this chatbot can provide accurate info and info-rich material and engage in user dialogue. It can even send photos and respond with AI-generated visuals. What’s more, users can customize the bot’s name and appearance.

Snap’s vice president of product, Jack Brody, said that the AI chatbot should “help people express themselves, learn about the world, live in the moment and have fun together.”
