Say Goodbye to Manual Orientation Locking: Set It Up Automatically on Your iPhone

Manually toggling orientation lock for specific apps just takes a few seconds to do. However, automating the process can make things much more convenient. When it comes to orientation of apps in IOS, many apps have their own ways of displaying on the screen when rotated from portrait to landscape mode.

Depending on the type of app and how the user plans to use it, this app behavior may not always be desirable. Hence, Apple decided to place the orientation lock in the control center. With this, users can quickly change the orientation to suit the particular app that they have opened.

Some apps actually work better when you turn off Orientation Lock. Consider apps like YouTube or the Photos app. When you tilt your device to landscape mode, it creates a more enjoyable full screen view that is worth experiencing.

If you usually have the lock enabled, you’ll need to manually disable it in Control Center every time you open these types of apps in order to enjoy full screen. Then, when you’re done with the app, you have to remember to reactivate Orientation Lock. This back and forth changing of orientation lock can be inconvenient. Thankfully, there is a straightforward personal automation you can set up to handle this task automatically for specific apps. This way, you won’t have to repeatedly access Control Center and toggle the lock on and off anymore.

Conclusion

Once your automation is saved in the Shortcuts app, it will be triggered automatically when you open or close any of the chosen apps. However, please keep in mind that if Orientation Lock is already disabled and you happen to open one of the selected apps, the automation will inadvertently turn the lock back on, which may contradict your original intention.
