OnePlus 12 will allegedly come with better cameras & a big battery

OnePlus 12

Early next year, the Chinese mobile phone brand, known for its high-end devices, OnePlus, is expected to launch its new mobile phone, OnePlus 12. This is following its usual launch pattern for previous models which arrives at the beginning of the year. Despite the fact that there are still many months before the official release, it is never too early for the rumour mill to roll out juicy details which we usually take with a grain of salt. A recent Weibo leak reveals some salient details about the OnePlus 12. The Weibo handle, @ExperienceMore has had some decent leaks in the recent past. Here are its claims regarding the OnePlus 12

  • Launch Date: December 2023
  • Chip: Snapdragon 8g3
  • Display: Center single punch hole Samsung 2K ultra-narrow curved screen
  • Camera: 50MP IMX9 series main camera + 50MP wide-angle + 64MP ov64b periscope telephoto
  • Battery: 5000 mAh
  • Charging Capacity: 150w
  • Others: high probability centred symmetrical circular module

OnePlus 12 Camera

According to @ExperienceMore and Gsmarena, the new 64 MP OV64B by OmniVision will replace the lovely 32 MP IMX709 telephoto lens. Under the hood, this device will also come with a 5,000 mAh battery which is fairly enough for a 2023 flagship going by the battery capacity in recent high-end phones. Also, this device will support 150W fast charging. It will not be the first time a OnePlus device uses such high-power charging. However, there are still some questions about the coming flagship that begs for answers. Recall that the OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 11 downgraded the triple digit charging standard in North America. At the moment, we can not tell if the company will also downgrade the charging standard of this OnePlus 12 in North America.

OnePlus has been making pretty decent Android phones in the market, and its latest flagship, the OnePlus 11, is no exception. However, when it comes to the camera, OnePlus has always lagged behind its competitors. But that might change with the upcoming OnePlus 12, which is rumoured to come with improved cameras. Just as the leak implies, Gsmarena also claims that this device will debut in December 2023. However, it is important to note that previous models like the OnePlus 10 and OnePlus 11 did launch in January.

Periscope Zoom Camera

To corroborate this leak from @ExperienceMore, popular and trusted Weibo leakster, @DigitalChatStation (@DCS) has previously revealed the camera improvement of the OnePlus 12. According to Android Central, OnePlus is testing a periscope zoom camera for its next flagship phone. The company has primarily stuck to more conventional zoom cameras in the past. But it looks like OnePlus may finally catch up with its next flagship. @DCS also recently revealed that OnePlus and Realme are testing periscope cameras for use on the SM8650, which is expected to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This claim is also the same as the recent report from @Expereince More.

Gizchina News of the week

This suggests that the OnePlus 12 may be able to get much closer to the action with its new camera lens. The addition of the new and improved periscope lens means that the OnePlus 12 will be capable of offering better zoom functionality. For those who love to take photos of distant objects, this is great news. The current OnePlus 11 offers a 2x optical zoom camera, which is surprisingly decent even when zooming in beyond that point. However, many of the best Android phones have better zoom capabilities, and OnePlus has been lagging behind in this regard.
Another leaker with a pretty decent track record, Yogesh Brar, has further confirmed the camera upgrade of the OnePlus 12. His report further claims that the phone will have a 6.7-inch QHD OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Two leaks from Experience More and Yogesh Brar agree on the camera, chip and battery. Another leak from @DCS also agrees with the chip info. However, Experience More and Yogesh Brar vary in their charging capacity. While the former says 150W, the latter presumes a 100W ceiling.

Improved Camera Performance

Trusted Reviews claims that OnePlus has never quite matched the flagship camera experience of its rivals. This is despite the association with the specialists at Hasselblad. The absence of long optical zoom has been felt, but it seems the company might be on the way to resolving one of the biggest complaints. The OnePlus 11 improved the situation, but there are still some niggles that stop it from being the best camera phone around. With the OnePlus 12, the company is expected to add the final piece of the camera puzzle.

Software Optimization

OnePlus has always been known for its software optimization. The company claims in a blog post that it has been working hard to improve its camera performance through software updates. The company has been releasing regular updates to improve the camera performance, and the results have been impressive. However, the OnePlus 12 is expected to take the camera performance to the next level.

Conclusion

The OnePlus 12 is expected to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor. The improved camera performance is one of the most anticipated features. With the addition of the periscope zoom camera, the OnePlus 12 will be capable of offering a better zoom function. This is great news for OnePlus fans who are also mobile phone camera enthusiasts.
