Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 3: The Thinnest Foldable Phone Yet!

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 3

The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 3 has been under our radar for quite a while now. Previously, we learned that Xiaomi is employing a new manufacturing process for the phone. During the announcement, the brand promised a redefined design resulting from advancements in manufacturing systems.

Now, the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, has posted some images of the upcoming foldable device. The pictures confirm the design upgrades of the Mi Mix Fold 3. In addition to that, the announcement gives some concrete numbers regarding the dimensions and additional details of the phone.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 3 Measures Just 4.9mm When Unfolded

Xiaomi made big advancements with the Mi Mix Fold 2. At the unfolded state, the predecessor measured 5.4mm, which is incredibly thin. Additionally, the phone had a thickness of only 11.2mm when folded, which is quite impressive. But this time, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 3 takes things to the next level.

Mix Fold 3 Unfolded

In the unfolded state, the Xiaomi Mix Mix Fold 3 measures just 4.93mm, while it’s 9.8mm when folded. To compare, the current leader in terms of thinness, the Honor Magic V2, measures 4.7mm in the unfolded state and 9.9mm in the folded stage. So, the Mi Mix Fold 3 definitely takes the lead in terms of thinness when folded.

Xiaomi could make this possible by redesigning the hinge. According to the brand, the new hinge is made of high-strength steel and can resist wear due to incorporating carbon ceramic. This makes the folding mechanism of the Mi Mix Fold 3 long-lasting.

To be exact, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 has been durability tested by TÜV Rheinland. And according to the test, the hinge should be good for 500 thousand folds.
