Honor Magic V2 foldable smartphone is going global on September 1st

In recent days, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 5, marking a fresh launch. Coinciding with this, Honor has now revealed its plans to release the Magic V2, a book-style foldable, beyond China. This announcement comes alongside the distribution of invites for Honor’s IFA 2023 event, signaling a broader launch for the Honor Magic V2.

Honor’s Presence at IFA 2023: Global Launch of Magic V2

Set to occur on September 1 at 10am CEST, Honor’s IFA 2023 event promises to combine elements of “Tech + Fashion + Sustainability.” The event’s “Unfold Tomorrow” poster indicates that the company is poised to introduce the Magic V2 to international consumers, along with another foldable device, though specifics remain undisclosed. While some speculation points to a flip phone design, no official hints have surfaced. However, the spotlight will likely remain on the Magic V2.

Having been initially unveiled in China last month, the Honor Magic V2 showcases an ideal form factor for a book-style foldable. Its sleekness often deceives people into mistaking it for a flat phone until it unfolds, revealing its unique design. The Magic V2’s near-slab-phone aspect ratio on the cover display enhances its utility when folded.

Impressively, the Honor Magic V2 weighs just 231 grams in its vegan leather variant, with the glass back model weighing slightly more at 237 grams. Surprisingly, both of these weights undercut the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which stands at 240 grams.

Turning attention to the specifications, the Magic V2’s cover display boasts a 20:9 aspect ratio, approximating the ratios found in the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the Galaxy S23 Ultra, standing at 19.5:9 and 19.3:9 respectively. This demonstrates that the Honor Magic V2 has bridged the gap between foldables and traditional slab phones in terms of weight and cover screen aspect ratio.

Regarding its features, the Magic V2 is equipped with a 6.43-inch LTPO panel that supports a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2,500 nits of brightness, outshining the iPhone’s 2,000 nits and the Oppo Find X6 Pro’s 2,400 nits. Further, an unfolded 7.92-inch OLED display, also with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,600 nits of brightness, supports stylus input, enhancing user experience.

Under the hood, the Honor Magic V2 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, complemented by 16GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. Its 5,000mAh battery is a standout, especially given its proprietary silicon-carbon battery solution, outperforming the thicker Galaxy Z Fold 5’s 4,400mAh battery.

Camera capabilities feature prominently in the Magic V2, with a triple rear camera setup comprising of 50MP primary, 50MP ultrawide, and 20MP telephoto sensors. Notably, both the cover screen and foldable screen host 16MP selfie cameras. Operating on Magic OS 7.2 based on Android 13, the device comes integrated with Google Services.

Considering its pricing, the Honor Magic V2 is listed at 8,999 yuan (approximately $1,250) for the 256GB variant in China. However, this figure might not accurately reflect the European price point, which could align closely with the Galaxy Z Fold 5‘s cost.
