Redmi 17 5G Leaks in Full — Vegan Leather, 7,500mAh, and No Charger in the Box!

Redmi's next budget 5G phone has shown its face. Renders, dimensions, and a near-complete spec sheet — all before a launch date has even been announced.

The Redmi 17 5G appears in orange, black, and blue, with the orange variant using a vegan leather back for a grippier feel. The black and blue versions go with glossy finishes. It's a small detail, but vegan leather on a budget phone is a nice touch. It tends to age better than gloss too. The phone measures 170.12 × 74.42 × 8.8mm and weighs 235 grams. 

Here's the trade-off. The Redmi 17 5G uses a 6.9-inch LCD panel running at 1600 × 720 resolution with a variable refresh rate — 60Hz, 90Hz, or 120Hz depending on what's happening on screen. Brightness peaks at 825 nits outdoors. 

720p on a 6.9-inch screen is noticeable if you look closely. Most people at this price point probably won't care. The 120Hz refresh and large size are what they'll actually feel day to day.

Under the hood is a 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 clocked up to 2.45GHz, running HyperOS 3 on Android 16. Solid for the segment. Don't expect gaming greatness — expect smooth everyday performance. Photography is handled by a 50MP AI main camera paired with a QVGA anti-flicker sensor on the rear, plus an 8MP front camera. Functional. Nothing exciting. 

A 7,500mAh battery with 45W charging powers the Redmi 17 5G. That's a big cell for a budget device. Frankly, it's bigger than what some mid-range phones offer. One catch though — the charger is not included in the box. At this price point, that stings a little. 

Durability comes via Gorilla Glass 7i on the front and an IP64 rating. Connectivity covers 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC. There's also a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers, and a dynamic RGB LED for notifications. 

The headphone jack and stereo speakers on a budget phone? Good. The missing charger? Less good. That's the Redmi 17 5G in a nutshell — plenty of practical strengths, one frustrating omission.
