Android 17 just started arriving on Xiaomi phones. HyperOS 3.3, the update that carries the new OS, is rolling out today to the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and Xiaomi 15T Pro. It's a major OS version jump in name. In practice, it's a foundation update — not a feature release.

Summary

  • Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra: public release in Global and Europe regions. Both variants are receiving HyperOS 3.3 today as a full public rollout.
  • Xiaomi 15T Pro: Mi Pilot channel only. A limited batch of testers gets it first before the wider rollout begins.
  • Download sizes are large: 9.5GB for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, 7.5GB for the Xiaomi 17 and 15T Pro — reflecting the full Android 17 OS package underneath.
  • No new features, no visual changes: The changelog confirms system stability improvements and the June 2026 security patch. That's it for now.
  • HyperOS 4 arrives in August: The true major update — with new visuals, features, and enhancements — comes with the Xiaomi 18 series. Older devices follow in September.

Why the Update Is Big but Looks Small

HyperOS 3.3 is essentially a carrier for Android 17. Xiaomi is using it to move eligible devices onto the new Android base without bundling it into a major feature release. That's a deliberate staging strategy — the visual overhaul, new AI features, and system enhancements all belong to HyperOS 4, which arrives in August with the Xiaomi 18 series. This update clears the technical path for HyperOS 4 to land cleanly.
The 9.5GB download size for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra makes more sense in this context. Android 17 itself is a large package. The update doesn't look big from a feature perspective, but it is large from an OS engineering perspective.

How to Check for the Update

Go to Settings, tap About Phone, then tap the HyperOS logo. If the update is available for your device and region, it will appear there. Xiaomi rolls out in batches, so it may take a few days to reach your unit even if you own one of the eligible models. Xiaomi 15T Pro users on the Mi Pilot channel should check the same path — the update is live but limited to pilot testers for now.

What Comes Next

HyperOS 4 is the release to watch. Xiaomi is targeting August for its debut alongside the Xiaomi 18 series, with a broader rollout to older supported devices beginning in September. That update is expected to bring the visual and functional changes that HyperOS 3.3 deliberately withholds.
