Vivo’s gaming-focused sub-brand iQOO is preparing a new iteration for its numbered flagship smartphone series. The new iQOO 12 series will arrive on November 7 with high-end specifications including the all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Ahead of the launch, Vivo is sharing some teasers to build up the hype for the new release. The company confirmed the iQOO 12 and 12 Pro will feature a new design, periscope camera for combined 100X zoom, and a new iQOO Q1 gaming chip. Today, a set of new hands-on images has emerged along with the reveal of iQOO’s new gaming chip.

The Hands-On Photos Confirm the iQOO 12 Design

Images revealed the two members of the series with a different design. The iQOO 12 will have flat sides, while the Pro will feature slightly curved edges. The White Legend version will boast the BMW M branding and will have a glass panel. The Black option will feature a sandstone-like look.

According to vivo, the phone will feature fluorite AG glass that changes its color slightly when exposed to light. The phone will also bring a striped red leather variant. Today, the hands-on images depict the “sandstone” black variant that stands among conventional glass phones. The images also confirm a brand new design language for the camera setup. iQOO leaves behind the rectangular camera design, for a circular island that comprises three camera modules.

The Q1 Gaming Chip

When it comes to the gaming chip, Vivo’s Vice-President, Jia Jindong, who is in charge of branding in China, further endorsed the iQOO’s roots as a gaming brand with focus on online games. For that reason, their games will always be performance-centric. With this in mind, the company developed the gaming Q1 chip. It is designed specifically to support the gaming engine.

iQOO Q1

The exact details about the gaming chip have not been disclosed yet, but this was not the first time vivo invests in separate chips to improve phone’s performance. For instance, the company had its display chips shipping with past iQOO flagships. These would handle the frames in gaming, taking the heavy weights from the GPU. Hence, the new gaming chip could boost the gaming performance further, making the phone play better in games.

The new Q1 chip is said to bring “super image resolution” and “ultra-high refresh rate”. The company also teased a four-zone cooling system to keep thermals under control and reduce performance throttling.

Conclusion

This article’s focus is on the hands-on images and in the confirmation of iQOO’s Q1 gaming chip. Right now, there are no other details available regarding the iQOO 12 and iQOO 12 Pro. We know the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be at the helm of the Pro variant, and it will also bring 100x hybrid zoom. The phones will also run OriginOS 4 straight out of the box. Vivo will keep sharing more teasers ahead of the phone’s launch in the next week. We will keep covering every new detail that pops out.
