Redmi’s Next Flagship-Killer Targets Power Users — Without Breaking the Bank

In a post on Weibo, Redmi General Manager Thomas Wang officially confirmed what many suspected. The upcoming Redmi K80 Ultra will be priced at around ¥3,000 (roughly $415). That figure, if accurate, makes the K80 Ultra one of the most aggressively positioned performance phones in China’s crowded mid-to-premium space.

But Wang didn’t just tease the price. He went further, calling the K80 Ultra the “most luxurious performance phone in the 3K Yuan range,” promising a leap not only in specs but in material quality and finish—details that often get cut to meet this price bracket.

Flagship Hardware, Midrange Price Tag

The Redmi K80 Ultra is tipped to ship with some serious hardware. While full specs remain unofficial, leaks suggest a 6.8-inch LTPS OLED flat display with 1.5K resolution, ultra-slim bezels, and ultrasonic fingerprint scanning—a feature still rare even on $1,000+ flagships.

Under the hood, it’s expected to pack the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plus. It’s MediaTek’s high-end chip for the second half of 2025 and a smart play: the 9400 Plus is more efficient than its Qualcomm rivals while still offering comparable gaming and multitasking performance.

The phone is also expected to house a massive 7,500mAh battery, paired with 120W wired fast charging. If accurate, this could make the K80 Ultra one of the best battery performers in its class.

More Than Just Raw Specs

Wang also emphasized the build quality, highlighting a metal middle frame—a premium structural component usually reserved for flagship-tier phones. It helps with heat dissipation, yes, but it also adds to the phone’s hand feel and perceived value.

There are also whispers of other “luxury” features. IP68 water resistance, a triple 50MP rear camera array housed in a distinctive round module, dual symmetrical speakers, and even a custom 0916 vibration motor tuned for gaming. Whether all of these make it into the final release remains to be seen. However the intent is clear—Redmi wants this phone to feel premium, not just benchmark well.

Gaming Tablet? Xiaomi 15T Pro? Maybe, Maybe Not.

There’s also buzz about a gaming-focused Redmi tablet launching alongside the Redmi K80 Ultra, though details are scarce. Both devices will remain China-exclusive, at least for now.

For global markets, Xiaomi may rebrand a version of the K80 Ultra as the Xiaomi 15T Pro, possibly with a few tweaks to the camera or software stack. That variant will possibly arrive in Q3 2025.

It’s easy to get cynical about “flagship-killer” branding—it’s a term that gets thrown around too often. But if the Redmi K80 Ultra really does hit the ¥3,000 mark while delivering what’s being teased, it won’t just undercut competitors. It’ll make them sweat.
