Oppo just launched its new flagship, the Find X8 Ultra, in April. Sadly, the device is available only in China. This means most people around the world will not be able to get it. Nevertheless, Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything managed to get his hands on one. In typical fashion, he ran the phone through his durability test.
Oppo Find X8 Ultra Undergoes Durability Test — And Has Unexpected Results
The test starts with a scratch test. On the Mohs hardness scale, Zack tests the toughness of the screen. At level 6, scratches begin to appear. At level 7, deeper grooves begin to form. This is normal for most flagship phones. The screen is made of hard glass, so it comes as no surprise that it reveals these results.
Next, Zack applies an open flame directly on the screen. The blaze remains on the screen for approximately 35 seconds. Surprisingly, there is no long-term damage to the screen. There is no mark or discoloration left on it. That’s one fantastic heat resistance performance.
The most dramatic part of the test is the bend test. Zack tries to bend the phone first from the back. Nothing. The phone doesn’t break. Then he bends it from the front. This is when the weak spot appears. The frame cracks along the antenna line where the power and volume buttons sit.
Oppo Find X8 Ultra Faces Durability Test
The phone does not completely fail, but the casing is no longer solid. It gets bent and deformed. This may mean its water and dust resistance (IP rating) is no longer guaranteed. It is not a failure, but not a clean pass either. The phone continues to work, but it is now slightly warped-looking.
There’s also a bonus teardown at the end of the video. Zack opens up the phone and shows what’s inside. It gives viewers a closer look at the inside design and build quality.
Overall, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra does certain things well. The screen is heat-resistant and scratch-resistant. But the bend test raises questions about durability in the long term. It’s an excellent phone, but not flawless. The average person won’t see this phone in person, but Zack’s test indicates what it can handle under duress.
