With the early advent of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, which will happen late in September, we can expect some brands to hasten the launch of their respective flagships. Xiaomi is one of the brands that launches new flagships shortly after Qualcomm every year. This has been happening with the past generations of its former Mi flagships (now only numbered flagships). That said, we can expect the Xiaomi 16 series to pop between October and November this year. That might explain why some of the specifications are popping out at this point. The Xiaomi 16 is the latest device to have its specs leaked by the tipster Digital Chat Station.
Xiaomi 16 Specs Leak – Significant Upgrades in Battery and Camera Department
According to the tipster, the Xiaomi 16 will come with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, which is hardly a surprise at this point. The Xiaomi 15 was one of the first devices with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and we expect the Xiaomi 16 to keep this mark. The device is said to feature three 50 MP rear cameras. There will be one with a 1/1.3″ sensor, an ultrawide, and a telemacro camera. As you can imagine, the latter will have some level of zooming capabilities and will double as a macro module when needed.
The phone will come with a 6,500 mAh battery. That’s a great capacity considering that the Xiaomi 16 should be the slimmer and more compact variant of the family. It will sport a 6.3-inch flat OLED screen with thin bezels on all sides. We expect the punch-hole design to return for the selfie camera as well as an under-screen fingerprint scanner. It is worth noting that its design leaked recently, and shows some small changes over the 15 series.
None of the above specifications comes as a big surprise. We can see some welcome upgrades like the bigger battery. If the numbers are accurate, there will be a nice upgrade over the Xiaomi 15 and its 5240. It’s even better than the Xiaomi 15 Pro battery which had 6,100mAh capacity. Another interesting addition is the presence of the telemacro shooter. It’s not being called as periscope by Digital Chat Station, so it partially contradicts some rumors pointing to a periscope camera with the Xiaomi 16.
Considering the whole package, the Xiaomi 16 won’t be an extraordinary upgrade over its predecessor. There are some nice improvements like a bigger battery, new cameras, and, of course, the presumably faster, Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. However, it may not be the biggest upgrade for those who already have a Xiaomi 15. It will still do the job well in most of what we expect from a flagship. But of course, the Xiaomi 16 Pro should be fancier, and the 16 Ultra will take the lineup’s crown.
