This fall, Apple is planning to launch its first MacBook Pro and iPad Pro with the new M5 processor. Unlike last year, when the company launched the M4 chip in the iPad Pro first and delayed its introduction in Macs, both products are expected to receive the M5 chip together.
Apple to Launch M5-Powered MacBook Pro and iPad Pro This Fall
The new products will likely be unveiled sometime in October or November 2025. Apple typically releases significant hardware upgrades during the fall, and this schedule aligns with the company’s historical release pattern. In addition to the new MacBook Pro and iPad Pro products, a reworked Apple Studio Display will also likely be released.
The new MacBook Pro line will consist of three models, each using the M5 chip. They are the standard M5 MacBook Pro, the more advanced M5 Pro MacBook Pro, and the premium M5 Max MacBook Pro. Although Apple will improve the chip, the rest of the design will mostly stay the same.
New M5 MacBook Pro and iPad Pro Coming in Late 2025
Apple is holding off on major design or display changes until the M6 generation. That is when customers can anticipate improvements such as fresh hardware features and OLED screens. It is doing the same with the iPad Pro. While rumors suggest Apple has started producing OLED displays for the iPad, the 2025 edition will only feature a processor refresh.
This approach enables Apple to maintain a fresh product lineup without redesigning all devices annually. It also reduces the process of transitioning to chips. With just two M5-powered devices released in 2025, Apple is able to control supply chains and manufacture more efficiently.
Other Macs, such as the MacBook Air, Mac mini, or iMac, won’t receive the M5 chip until later in 2026. That’s in line with Apple’s typical pattern when releasing new chip generations.
Short of that, Apple fans have much to look forward to with potent new performance enhancements this fall. But for those expecting an overhaul of immense proportion, a wait until the M6 chip arrives will be necessary. For now, the focus is on improving processing speed and efficiency with the new M5 chip in the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro lines.
