During a livestream on Thursday (July 31), Electronic Arts officially confirmed the release date for Battlefield 6. The game is set to launch on October 10. It marks the long-awaited return of the franchise, which hasn’t seen a mainline entry since Battlefield 2042 back in 2021. There is a big anticipation for the game, after all, Battlefield has been one of the main competitors for Call of Duty. The latter has been sitting in a comfortable position with the failure of Battlefield 2042.
Battlefield 6 Will Get Multiple Rounds of Open Beta in August
To build excitement ahead of launch, EA also announced an open beta that will take place in three phases: August 7–8, then August 9–10, and finally August 14–17. Players can secure early access by watching content creators stream the game starting today.
Battlefield 6 aims to restore the series’ reputation after a rough few years. Once a top contender to Call of Duty, Battlefield lost ground after a series of missteps, particularly with 2042. The last entry was criticized for its futuristic setting and lack of polish. This time, EA and developer DICE are taking a different approach.
The new installment brings the series back to a more grounded, modern-day setting, closer to what made Battlefield 3 so iconic. That 2011 release is still widely regarded as the high point of the franchise. The reason? The game had massive maps, destructible environments, and large-scale multiplayer battles. Battlefield 6 will even revive a classic BF3 map as part of its multiplayer offering.
The game is also said to have a massive budget, reportedly around $400 million, showing EA’s commitment to reviving the brand in a big way. After the commercial and critical failure of 2042, the stakes are high. Battlefield 6 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For fans of large-scale tactical shooters, October can’t come soon enough. We are curious to see if the game will be able to bring some challenge to Call of Duty Warzone, which has been one of the leading competitive shooters of the past years.
