Xiaomi has since officially confirmed that it will release the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 this year. This launch will end a three-year wait for a new Xiaomi tablet. After the official announcement by Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, there have been a lot of speculations regarding the upcoming Mi Pad 5. The latest report is that the system of this tablet will be similar to that of the recently released Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold. Of course, the MIX Fold is a dual device (tablet and smartphone), thus this is not entirely a surprise.
For the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 to have a similar system with the MIX Fold suggests that they will have similar features. We expect features like handheld PC mode, parallel windows, dual-screen drag, and drop, conference secretary, Multi-image sending, and other features. According to previous reports, the Mi Pad 5 will use a special system which is called “MIUI for Pad”.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 specs speculation
From the available information, the Mi Pad 5 LCD display will be about 11 inches (10.95-inch). This is a significant increase from its predecessor which uses an 8-inch display. This screen will support a 2K resolution display with a 144Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi will patronize Huaxing Optoelectronics/BOE for this display if the reports on the web are true.

Under the hood, reports have it that the Mi Pad 5 will use the Snapdragon 870 SoC. This is a 7nm chip but its performance is higher than the Snapdragon 865+ SoC. On the rear, there will be a dual-camera setup – specifically 20MP + 13MP. Furthermore, this tablet will use a side fingerprint solution and its thickness/weight will be 8.13mm/510g.

Xiaomi’s most recent tablet is the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 Plus which arrived in 2018. This means that the Mi Pad 5 will be arriving after a three-year hiatus. It appears that this year is the year that the company will continue its “paused” lineups. Recall that it recently reactivated the MIX series with the launch of the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold,
It is not entirely a surprise that Xiaomi is waiting until now to reactivate its tablet lineup. With the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the demand for huge display devices hit the roof. Huawei, Apple, and Samsung already had recent existing tablets and benefitted from the surge in demand.
