Oukitel U6 will have dual displays, e-ink panel included

It all really started with the Yotaphone, and makers from the East have taken it from there. I’m talking about dual screen phones; a ‘regular’ LCD panel on the front combined with an e-ink display on the rear seems to be quite the in thing as far as Chinese manufacturers are concerned.

We’ve already seen the Siswoo R9 Darkmoon show off its dual-screen prowess; a more recent phone (ironically which is yet to launch) is the UMi Zero 2, which will again have an e-ink panel on the rear, and a 5.2-inch (Super AMOLED?) screen on the front.

Gizchina News of the week

Newest in this list is the Oukitel U6. Oukitel have already launched the U8, and are prepping launches of the subsequent U9 and U10. But the U6 is a bit of a surprise with dual screen displays. Full specifications of the phone will be announced next month, but what we do know for now is that the U6 will have a 5-inch front panel and a smaller 4.7-inch e-ink display on the back.

Oukitel go on to mention that the U6 “might be powered by MT6797 Helio X20 SoC which is unconfirmed yet”. Now, that would make the phone quite a powerhouse — but don’t bet your money on the device carrying the SoC yet.

Interesting devices. Just hope dey dont die in 5 hours. Cause one screen is big enough problem for manufacturers to handle let alone a dual screen.

Depends on the battery, but as far as I know e-ink panel is stuff like in kindle, so it doesn’t consume much energy.

If it is the build quality of the U8 with dual screens, count me in. I got my U8 yesterday and am really impressed (iphone level build quality), apart from a few minor issues
