Is the iPhone 18 Worth Waiting For After the iPhone 17?

Is the standard iPhone still worth the wait? A recent Weibo post argues that the iPhone 17 was, because it was the first standard iPhone with a 120Hz screen. It says the iPhone 18 looks more conventional, with minor upgrades and a possible price increase. The question feels more real now than a year ago. Apple launched only the Pro models and a foldable in September, and the standard iPhone 18 is not expected until spring 2027.

Why the iPhone 17 Was Worth the Wait

The iPhone 17 has a 6.3-inch screen with ProMotion, which runs up to 120Hz. It was the first non-Pro iPhone to get that feature, and until then it had been a reason to pay for a Pro. The phone also has dual 48MP cameras and starts at 256GB of storage. For buyers who wanted a smooth screen without paying for a Pro, the wait made sense.

Why the iPhone 18 Looks More Conventional

Reports expect the standard iPhone 18 in spring 2027, alongside the iPhone 18e and a second iPhone Air. Apple has not confirmed this timing. The rumored upgrades are modest: an A20 chip, Apple's C2 modem, and possibly more RAM. MacRumors says no major design change is expected. Nothing on that list is as noticeable as the screen upgrade the iPhone 17 brought but All of it remains rumor until Apple confirms it.

Will the Price Rise?

The post's price worry is already partly true. Apple raised the iPhone 17 from $799 to $899 on September 9, when it also raised Pro prices amid rising memory costs. MacRumors expects the iPhone 18 to cost at least $899, and one outlet warns it could reach $999. Apple does not discount the iPhone 17, though some retailers still sell it for less. If the iPhone 18 launches at $899, the iPhone 17 might fall back toward $799. Apple has not said so, and a spring launch is not guaranteed either.

So, Will You Wait?

Wait if your current phone still works well and you want the newer chip, extra RAM or a possible redesign. Buy now if you need a phone before spring, or if you want ProMotion, dual 48MP cameras and 256GB of storage today. Because the rumored upgrades are small and the price is not expected to fall below $899, waiting buys you a newer chip, not a cheaper phone. In my opinion i would either keep my older iPhone or buy a Pro model, since the 18 doesnt bring anything big and new, unlike the 17 did a year ago.
