Google has openly admitted that the
Pixel 9 Pro lineup has screen faults, and it has
rolled out a free Extended Repair Program to deal with the issue. The move came after a report outlining user complaints and Google’s internal findings.
The company says the Pixel 9 Pro and
Pixel 9 Pro XL may show two key signs: a vertical line running from the bottom to the top of the display, or repeated screen flicker. Any device that shows these faults will qualify for a free screen swap.
This repair plan stretches support far beyond the normal warranty. The company will now cover the specific screen issue for 3 years. It will be counted from the day the user buys the device. This gives owners of this device more coverage than usual.
This move shows that Google takes the issue quite seriously. The company is actively trying to minimize the frustration of users and the risk of the issue demarketing the device.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold handled differently
Google has also added the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to the program, though the rules are not as clear. The company did not list exact screen fault symptoms for the Fold model.
Instead, the announcement simply says the plan covers problems that affect the device’s “functionality.” Fold users will need to send their phone in for a review before they can be approved for the free repair, since each case will be judged individually.
Google made it clear that not every device will qualify. Phones with cracked glass, damaged screens caused by drops, or liquid exposure will not be accepted. Those cases fall under accidental damage and must go through normal warranty checks or paid repair options.
Service now open to users
The repair plan is live, and owners can apply through Google Walk-in centers, partner repair shops, or online channels. After a repair is done, Google will add an extra 90 days of warranty for the replaced parts or fixed faults. It is a small but useful move that gives Pixel 9 Pro owners more support as Google works to contain a growing hardware issue.
