Huawei has just shown off a new feature coming with HarmonyOS 7. It's called Hyperspace Storage Technology, and it tackles a problem most of us know too well: your phone's storage keeps filling up, even when you barely download anything.

So, what does it actually do?

The idea is pretty simple. Hyperspace Storage Technology runs in the background and looks for storage that can be freed up.
You don't need to go through folders yourself. There is no need to spend ten minutes hunting down old cache files either. Huawei says the system handles it automatically.
And the numbers can be pretty impressive. On devices with 1TB of storage, Huawei claims the feature can recover up to 109GB.
That's not exactly a small amount. It's enough space for a lot of photos, videos, or apps.

HarmonyOS 7 is getting closer

This isn't the first time we've heard about HarmonyOS 7. Huawei has been testing it for a few months now.
The first developer beta arrived in June. At the time, it was available on just seven flagship devices, with 15,000 testing slots.
That changed in late July. Huawei expanded the closed beta to more than 40 devices, including regular smartphones, foldables, and tablets.
Now we're moving into the next phase. HarmonyOS 7 has entered public beta on more than 50 devices. Some of Huawei's newer products are also starting their own beta testing.

Storage is becoming a problem

Phone storage fills up surprisingly quickly these days.
Photos are larger. Videos take up even more space. Apps keep getting bigger, while cached files can quietly pile up in the background.
Before you know it, that 256GB phone doesn't have nearly as much free space as it used to.
That's why this feature could actually be useful. It's not some flashy AI trick that you'll forget about after a week. If HarmonyOS can recover tens of gigabytes without you having to do anything, that's something you'll probably notice.

When is HarmonyOS 7 coming?

Huawei still hasn't announced an exact date for the stable release. For now, the company is expected to launch it this fall alongside the Huawei Mate 90 series.
Until then, more devices should continue joining the beta program.
