MediaTek has finally put a date on its next flagship chipset. The company has confirmed that it will unveil the Dimensity 9600 Pro on September 15, with the event starting at 2:30 PM in China.
That means the launch will take place at 2:30 AM in New York, 7:30 AM in London, 8:30 AM in Central Europe, 9:30 AM in Eastern Europe, and noon in India. So, depending on where you are, you'll have to get up pretty early to catch the announcement live.
The announcement came through MediaTek's official X account, and while the company is still keeping the technical details under wraps, it has already teased several of the areas where the new chip is expected to improve.

Dimensity 9600 Pro Will Focus on Gaming, AI, and Imaging

MediaTek is calling the new chipset a "pro chip", and the messaging around the launch is pretty clear. The company wants this to be more than just another performance upgrade.

MediaTek is highlighting "pro efficiency" and "pro imaging", with support for 4K video recording at 240fps for slow-motion footage. That's one of the more interesting details revealed so far, although we'll have to wait for the full announcement to see exactly what the image-processing hardware can do.
Gaming is getting plenty of attention too. The Dimensity 9600 Pro will bring AI-enhanced graphics, an upgraded HyperEngine gaming system, and improved ray tracing. MediaTek is also promising a more immersive gaming experience, which sounds familiar on its own, but the combination of AI and ray tracing could make the new chip worth watching.

Is There a Regular Dimensity 9600 Too?

The launch announcement also seems to settle one part of the recent rumors. Yes, this is apparently the Dimensity 9600 Pro we've been hearing about. But that doesn't necessarily mean it will be the only chip in the lineup.
There have also been reports of a standard Dimensity 9600 and a more powerful Dimensity 9600 Pro Max. MediaTek hasn't confirmed either of those yet, so for now, it's best to treat them as rumors. The good news is that we won't have to speculate for much longer. The September 15 event should give us the complete picture, including the CPU and GPU configuration, manufacturing process, AI performance, efficiency improvements, and, hopefully, some real-world performance numbers.

Key Points

  • Dimensity 9600 Pro will be unveiled on September 15.
  • The event starts at 2:30 PM China time.
  • MediaTek is teasing AI-enhanced graphics and upgraded HyperEngine features.
  • The chipset will support 4K 240fps slow-motion video.
  • Ray tracing is another major focus for gaming.
  • A regular Dimensity 9600 and Dimensity 9600 Pro Max are still unconfirmed.
MediaTek clearly wants the Dimensity 9600 Pro to compete at the very top of the Android chipset market. The launch is only a few days away, so we'll soon find out whether the company has made the kind of jump that can really challenge the latest flagship chips from Qualcomm and other rivals. The Vivo X500 series is confirmed as one of the first devices featuring the new CPU.
