In the next month, we will see the beginning of a new chapter for flagship smartphones. Qualcomm is about to make its move in the high-end territory during the annual Snapdragon Summit, where the brand will unveil a new flagship duo: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. MediaTek is also expected to use this timeframe to unveil its next-generation MediaTek Dimensity 9600 series. Ahead of these official announcements, popular tipster Digital Chat Station has shared fresh details on what to expect under the hood.

According to Digital Chat Station, the top-tier "Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6"—likely the commercial Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro—will be fabricated on TSMC’s advanced 2nm process. It is set to break the 5GHz frequency barrier, featuring two prime cores clocked at a massive 5.01 GHz. The complete CPU cluster reportedly uses a 2+3+3 layout:
  • 2x Prime Cores: 5.01 GHz
  • 3x Performance Cores: 4.03 GHz
  • 3x Efficiency Cores: 3.74 GHz
For context, last year's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 featured 2x 4.61 GHz prime cores and 6x 3.63 GHz performance cores. MediaTek is also introducing a Pro variant to its lineup this year alongside the standard Dimensity 9600. The Dimensity 9600 Pro will also be manufactured on TSMC's 2nm (N2P) node, utilizing ARM's latest CPU core architecture:

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Series - Desktop-Class Graphics and Next-Gen Architecture

Mobile graphics are taking another major leap forward. As flagship smartphones increasingly demonstrate the ability to run PC titles via emulation, next-generation mobile GPUs are evolving to meet these demanding workloads.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will debut with the new Adreno 850 GPU. This processor features a 3-slice GPU configuration with 18 MB of dedicated graphics memory, paired with an 8 MB Last Level Cache (LLC) on the SoC. Meanwhile, the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will feature the Adreno 845 GPU, configured with 2 slices and 12 MB of graphics memory.

MediaTek's Dual-Cluster Graphics Approach

The Dimensity 9600 Pro will incorporate the ARM G2-Ultra NX MC12 GPU—the same graphics architecture utilized in the Xiaomi Xring O3 chip. This 16-core design is divided into two distinct clusters:

  • 8 NX Tensor Cores: Dedicated to AI frame generation and resolution upscaling technologies.
