Meizu to launch Mediatek powered phone by next year?

After the success of Xiaomi's Hongmi, many other Chinese manufacturers seem to have realized the true potential of Mediatek's cost-effective chipsets and are lining up to have a rival device. We've seen Mediatek chipsets being used in Sony devices among others, and now another manufacturer known for producing 'premium' devices has shown interest in using the same to power their devices.

As the title says, it is none other than Meizu who plan to adopt a Mediatek processor on their next device, which apparently will cost under 2,000 Yuan or $328. Meizu have suffered losses owing to low sales in the past few months due to other brands like Xiaomi, Jiayu, etc. coming up with cheaper and sometimes more powerful devices, and have even had to shut down a lot of their physical stores to cut costs. However, the brand remains to be a favorite among audiophiles and multimedia buffs.

It is expected of Meizu to offer a Mediatek phone by next year, however we cannot expect the phone to be Hongmi-cheap for reasons mentioned above. At the very least, the device will be among premium Mediatek-based devices like the Vivo X1, OPPO R819, etc. Another thing that this launch might do is that it might break the monotony Meizu find themselves in at the moment; one device a year certainly won't keep them on top of buyers' minds for long.
