Multiple sites are reporting that Indian
Phone manufacturer Intex announced an
update to its budget conscious
Aqua i4 line of phones earlier this week. The
Aqua i4+ is expected to be sent out to retailers and made available at
online outlets in the next few days. Reportedly, the "new"
device has virtually identical
specs as the original
Aqua i4 with the only noticeable differences seeming to be that the
price has been reduced and the logo now includes a plus symbol.
Both phones feature a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 512MB of RAM, a 5-inch 456x840 display, 3G connectivity, dual-SIM GSM, WCDMA support, a 2,000mAh battery, a pair of 8MP and 1.3MP cameras and 4GBs of expandable on-
phone storage. But while the
Aqua i4 launched for 9,990
INR the
Aqua i4+ will reportedly
launch for 7,600
INR (122USD, 89 EUR). Like its "predecessor" the
Aqua i4+ will launch in both white and blue varieties.
If the Aqua i4+ is indeed supposed to be a
new phone, and if the reported
specs are indeed correct, it is enough to make you wonder why Intex didn't just lower the price of their
Aqua i4 rather than repackaging the same
phone under a slightly modified
name. Then again, repackaging a product under a
new name is one way to bring attention to an older product.
While the so-called new phone has been reported on by a large host of news sites and official looking images of the device have appeared online, I was unable to independently find the original source or any official announcement by Intex themselves. While many other sites are taking the news as confirmed and include alleged quotes from Intex's CEO, I would hold off for an official announcement from Intex before taking the "announcement" as confirmed.
We will have more information if and when it becomes available.
