Mysterious HTC phone gets Bluetooth certification, could be its first 5G phone

The next generation of mobile internet, 5G — short for “fifth generation” — is on the way, and it’s bringing exceptional data download and upload speeds with it. Smartphone users and makers alike are both getting set for the arrival of the 5G network, and while phone makers like Samsung and LG already announced a 5G Ready smartphones, other OEMs from China have all given their words to deliver on 5G ready phones before the year ends, and a few others like HTC has yet to commit to releasing devices with the next mobile network.

While there have been insinuations that phone maker HTC could be exiting the phone market soon, famed and reliable leakster Evan Blass earlier last month revealed that the company could be working on a 5G smartphone with the model number 2Q6U, though no details were given. Now, barely a month since Blass made that revelation, an HTC phone with the same 2Q6U10000 model number has been spotted on the Bluetooth SIG website for the usual Bluetooth certification.

Unfortunately, the listing hasn’t revealed anything significant regarding the features of the smartphone other than the fact it will offer support for Bluetooth v5.0. There’s no word regarding the phone’s marketing name, however, there are speculations it could launch as the HTC U13 given that the firm has yet to release an update to the HTC U12.
