Elephone today
tweeted that their budget Ivory phone will ship with Android 5.1 but get an update to
Android 6 earlier next year.
Android 6 is making its way on to plenty of Chinese smartphones from the high end OnePlus 2 to the $99 Elephone Ivory. Elephone announced that they were working on a new smartphone that would retail at under $100 a few weeks back and have now confirmed it will come with Android 5.1 out of the box.
Elephone haven’t confirmed when the Elephone Ivory all go on sale, but those of you choosing to buy it can mark March in your diary as the date you should receive Android 6.0
Marshmallow.
While this still sounds like a while away, it actually doesn’t give Elephone all that long to get the latest Android version running on their phones. For the next few weeks factories are working on Christmas orders, then there is the rush for Chinese New Year, and then China basically shuts down for 2 weeks in February for the Spring Festival celebrations. March seems like an optimistic timeframe to us.
