When Redmi launched the Turbo 5 Max, one thing hit hard. There is no wireless charging. For some fans, that felt like a step back, but Redmi says it is not. In this price band, most phones still skip this perk. The company calls it a nice extra, but not a must. The focus here is on fast wired power and long use time.

The phone runs a 100W wired charge that fills the huge 9000mAh cell in about one hour. That means less wait and more use each day. It also works with a wide PPS rule set, so many third-party chargers can still push fast power. It also supports 27W reverse charging by cable, which lets the phone charge earbuds or other small gear with ease.
One more trick is bypass charge. When you game or stream while charging, the phone can draw power directly, not from the battery. This cuts heat and saves the cell from extra wear. Put all this together and Redmi claims the Turbo 5 Max has one of the best power setups you can get at this cost.

Why the back is not glass

The other big talk point is the back panel. It is not glass. It is fiberglass. Redmi is clear here. Glass feels nicer in hand. It is smooth and cool. Fiberglass does not win on feel. But it wins on strength. It bends less and breaks less, which helps in daily use.
Also, fiberglass allows the back of the phone to be thinner and lighter. On this phone, it trims about 0.19mm and drops 7.5g compared to the last Redmi Pro model. This extra saved space was then use to accommodate the big battery. Redmi also worked on board layout and design. All these small gains added up to a near 1500mAh battery jump, with the phone size left almost the same.

Big battery as the main goal

At the core, this phone makes a clear trade. It drops one feel good perk to chase long life and fast top ups. Redmi bets that most users will pick days of use over a pad on the desk.
The Turbo 5 Max came out in late January with a new Dimensity chip and prices that sit well below top tier phones. In that light, the choice makes sense. It is built for users who want power that lasts, not beauty that sells in a store. You may miss glass and wireless power, but you gain time, speed, and peace of mind.
