The leaks have been popping out in the past months, but not even the most enthusiastic Samsung fan could see this coming: Samsung took to the first day of December to unveil its Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold. The company that basically kickstarted the world of foldable smartphones (along with Huawei, of course) is ready for the next step. The Galaxy Z TriFold arrives as Samsung's letter to folding innovation. The new foldable will be available for purchase in next week, bringing flagship specifications and a couple of software features that make it more interesting.
In terms of design and build innovation, the Galaxy Z TriFold has two dual titanium hinges. It allows the main folding screen to be completely protected when not in use. Unlike Huawei's Mate XT and Mate XTs, the Galaxy Z TriFold has a cover screen in the rear. The two sides of the folding screen can fold into the center.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold - Innovative Display and Flagship Specifications

Interestingly, the Galaxy Z TriFold goes beyond the term of foldable smartphones to play with the concept of foldable tablets. Its folding screen measures 10 inches diagonally and features a 2,160 x 1,584 resolution with a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The panel has 1,600 nits of peak brightness. There is a small punch-hole cutout on the right side for the 10 MP selfie camera. The device gets a pre-installed protective film just like the rest of the Galaxy Z series.

The 6.5-inch cover screen features a 2,520 x 1,080 resolution and has up to 120Hz of adaptive refresh rate. This panel has a 21:9 aspect ration. It is brigther with up to 2,600 nits of peak brigthness, and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protection. There is also a 10 MP selfie camera.
The Galaxy Z TriFold comes with OneUI 8 based on Android 16; the large panel brings some useful multi-tasking features. Users can run three full-sized apps in portrait mode side-by-side. Furthermore, it is the first Samsung phone to have a standalone Samsung DeX. For those unaware, it brings a desktop-like interface from the Quick Settings panel. Combined with a mouse and keyboard, the Galaxy Z TriFold serves as a portable workstation.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is sleek thanks to its Advanced Armor Aluminum Frame. It measures just 3.9 mm at the thinnest point. It also weighs 309 grams and measures 159.2 x 75 x 12.9 mm when folded. Just like its distant siblings in the Z lineup, the device has IP48 ingress protection against dust and water. It makes the device more durable and ready for different scenarios of usage.

Snapdragon 8 Elite For Galaxy and 200 MP Main Camera

Moving on, the TriFold features Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, paired with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7. It's not on par with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, but perhaps Samsung will keep that one for the next generation. The device features 16 GB of RAM and is available with either 512 GB or 1 TB of Internal Storage.
In terms of optics, the TriFold has a triple-camera setup with a 200 MP ISOCELL HP2 camera. There is also a 10 MP 3x telephoto snapper and a 12 MP ultrawide lens. The device also has a 5,600mAh three-cell battery split between each of the three back panels of the device. It has 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.

The Device's Availability

The Samsung Z TriFold will sell in a single Crafted Black color. The price remains a mystery, but the reports say that South Korea will be the first country to get the device, as it will be available on December 12. Samsung did confirm it will take the device to China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the United States in the future.

We have to agree that this launch was quieter than what we've been expecting. Perhaps, tri-folding smartphones aren't making so much, and Samsung decided to launch it without any event, the same way it usually does with the Galaxy FEs, for example. Time will tell if this new step for the Galaxy Z lineup will prove to be the correct one.

When we consider the leaks pointing to the launch of a foldable iPhone in 2026, it makes sense to see the TriFold launching at this point. We don't know if the TriFold will win the race against the foldable iPhone in terms of success, but Samsung may get an advantage thanks to its early release.
