Samsung has finally released its wildest foldable in the US, and it did not stick around for long. The Galaxy Z TriFold went on sale today with a jaw-dropping $2,899 price, which puts it a full $900 above the Galaxy Z Fold7. However, it didn't last long, with the stocks completely gone in about 20 minutes.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold - A Tech Showcase That It's Not For Everyone

That sounds like instant success, but that might not be the case. Samsung never said how many units were actually up for grabs. If the stock was tiny, a fast sellout does not necessarily mean huge demand. The company already played a similar game in South Korea, where earlier drops were also extremely limited. This clearly is not a normal large-scale launch.
The Galaxy Z TriFold was not offered with much choice. The brand sold it only in Crafted Black. Similarly, there is one main storage option, 512 GB. That alone tells you what kind of device this is. It is not meant to be the next everyday Galaxy for the average buyer. Right now, it feels more like a concept phone that somehow made it to checkout.

In fact, Samsung has more or less said the same thing. The TriFold is being treated as a technology showcase, aimed at foldable fans and people who just want the strangest, newest hardware out there. It is not about practicality first. It is about pushing form factors and seeing what is possible. The device is still a concept, and unfortunately, some users may serve as beta testers for this technology. In fact, some users are already reporting dead pixel issues. To recall, Samsung had a multitude of problems with the first Galaxy Fold. Until this tech matures, we wil likely see more cases like this.

The Biggest Selling Point

The big talking point, of course, is the triple-fold design. Instead of opening like a book, this thing unfolds into something closer to a small tablet, taking flexible display tech a step further than what most people are used to. It feels like Samsung is experimenting in public, without worrying too much about price or mass appeal.
That price is another big part of the story. At $2,899, this sits way outside normal flagship territory. Even more interesting, Samsung claims it is selling the device at a loss. If that is true, the goal here is clearly image and innovation, not profit.

When you look at the whole picture, the TriFold feels less like a regular phone and more like a statement piece. Limited stock, sky-high price, almost no configuration options. This is Samsung showing off what it can build, and letting a small group of enthusiasts buy into that future early. Whether triple-fold phones ever go mainstream is another question entirely.
