What we’ve got here is a bit of an oxymoron.
Shanzhai’s basic meaning is a type of local made device with major styling cues from another companies product (aka a carbon copy in most cases) but an
original is the complete opposite, but what we have could be the first Original.
It’s made by a small electronics company in China, it has a passing resemblance of a
HP, however it manages to look unique and very business like at the same time. Under the
screen and professional looking body lies what essentially is a net-book. The is the latest in the Atom line, a D525 clocked at a respectable 1.8 Ghz, there’s 1Gb of and a 250Gb in there too, there are however some nice little surprises. Such as the ION 2 chipset which along with the Atom should mean snappy performance, very little heat and noise plus good life. There is also a DVD-RW which is pretty unheard off on laptops.
Other nice include the 1366 x 768
resolution screen, full size chiclet keyboard, and good size track pad. Power/charger jack, cooling vent, VGA, HDMI out, 1 x and headphone/microphone jacks are located along the left hand side. Along the right is the DVD-RW tray, SD card reader, one more and ethernet plugs. Underneath lies access hatches so you can get at the and for a little bit of light modding, 4400 mAh and a 3G sim card slot.
Although not the prettiest in the world this Proton branded machine has some nice
features plus it makes a refreshing change to all those Sony and
Apple knock offs we normally cover.
