TECNO and photographer Angélica Dass 100 Portraits of Becoming project gets a new chapter. The partnership have launched a new portrait gallery in the Philippines as part of the global project. The collection features 20 people whose lives connect with solo motherhood, showing how family, work, personal goals, and relationships shape their identities.
Launched in Manila on October 26, 2026, the gallery is the project's second chapter, following its debut in Kenya in July. The two-year initiative plans to document 100 people across five countries, using portrait photography to explore the stories behind social labels.

TECNO's Portrait Project Looks Beyond Labels

The Philippines chapter, titled See Beyond Labels, explores the experiences of solo mothers, their adult children, multigenerational families, overseas Filipino workers, and community advocates.

The project draws attention to the challenges faced by solo parents in the Philippines. Available estimates put their number at 14 million to 15 million, with women accounting for about 95% of the total. The country also had around 2.19 million overseas Filipino workers in 2024, 57.2% of whom were women.
Rather than treating these figures as the full story, the gallery focuses on individual experiences. Its portraits explore how motherhood can exist alongside professional ambitions, personal interests, and other responsibilities.

Three Stories Show Different Paths

Ely Haig is one of the 20 people featured in the gallery. She works in advertising, supports her family, and plays padel in amateur competitions. She once put her career on hold to care for her family. Later, she found ways to balance work, motherhood, and her personal interests.

“Being a good mother shouldn’t mean leaving yourself behind,” Haig said. She wants people to see her as more than just a solo mother.
Another participant, Twinkle Dimayuga Zamora, raised two children on her own. She later founded MAMA (Mothers Advocating through Ministry and Action) to support other solo mothers and their children.

The initiative supports solo mothers and their children. Her approach emphasizes asking for help, communicating openly, and building a support network.

The Portrait of Eunice N. Angeles
Eunice N. Angeles is a fourth-year nursing student. Her mother raised her alone before moving to Qatar for work. Seeing her mother work hard and make tough choices gave Eunice confidence and the drive to build her own future. These stories show how women and families balance daily duties with their own goals.

TECNO Universal Tone Powers the Portraits

Dass took all 20 portraits in Manila with the TECNO CAMON Slim 5G. The phone uses TECNO's Universal Tone technology. She photographed people at work, in their homes, and in places where they spend time with others.
Universal Tone aims to show different skin tones more accurately in photos. In this project, the technology helps capture each person's look and unique features.

Dass said the project showed that solo motherhood is only one part of a person's life. Each person has their own goals, relationships, and dreams for the future. TECNO General Manager Jack Guo said the stories show how women can balance motherhood, work, and personal goals.
