The latest model of the Tesla Model Y L has been rolled out to customers in China, barely two weeks after its official launch.
The popular electric SUV is a new six-seat model that offers more space and comfort while driving.

A Larger, More Spacious SUV

The Model Y L stands out because of its increased size compared to earlier versions.
Tesla stretched the wheelbase from 2,890 mm to 3,040 mm, and the overall length has grown to 4,976 mm.
This makes it almost 18 centimetres longer than the standard model.
The height of this model has been increased to provide more space, especially with the new six-seat layout, but the width remains the same.

Longer Range and Upgraded Battery

The car is powered by an upgraded 82.0-kWh ternary lithium battery supplied by LG Energy Solution.
This battery delivers an impressive driving range of 751 kilometres on a single charge.
This is a big improvement over the standard rear-wheel-drive Model Y, which has a smaller 62.5-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a range of 593 kilometres.

Pricing and Delivery Schedule

The new SUV starts at 339,000 yuan, which is around $47,460.
For comparison, other Model Y versions in China are priced lower, with the rear-wheel-drive version starting at 263,500 yuan ($36,893) and the all-wheel-drive version at 313,500 yuan ($43,894).
Tesla has already started clearing its order backlog, and new buyers can expect delivery of their vehicles by the first week of October.

Strong Early Demand

Data gathered from insurance shows that vehicle registrations for Tesla cars in China have gone up by 21 percent, far more than what was recorded last week.
This encouraging feedback shows the strong demand for the Tesla Model Y L.
With some extra features like extra seating, a bigger size, and its longer range, it will go on to interest more families in need of a comfortable electric SUV.
The move by Tesla to release the Model Y L early shows the urge to stay relevant in a very competitive electric vehicle market in China.
