Gionee announced the
Gionee Elife
S5.5 earlier today, a 5.
5mm thick
smartphone which happens to be the uber-thin
device we talked about a few weeks back!
China and its obsession with thin
smartphones. Vivo,
OPPO, and now
Gionee; there seems to be a broad interest in the Chinese audience for slim
smartphones like this one. The
Gionee Elife S5.5 comes with not only a razor-sharp 5.
5mm body, but also specifications that should impress most. Perhaps not the 2014-esque Snapdragon 800 and 1440p screen, but something which you perhaps will settle for given your fancy for slim
smartphones.
The
device packs a quad-core 1.7GHz processor of unspecified make (1.7GHz...could it be a Snapdragon 600?), along with 2GB of RAM beneath a 5-inch screen, again of unspecified resolution.
Gionee surprise with a 2300mAh battery that they've somehow manged to fit into the 5.
5mm profile, which they claim has enough in it to take you through one entire day.
For the shutterbugs, the Elife S5.5 comes with a
13 mega-pixel rear
camera and a 5 mega-pixel front
camera. No fancy terms like f/2.0 or sapphire lens were supplied, so we assume it will be the average
13 mega-pixel sensor.
A 3G variant of the
device is already up for pre-order in China for $370, with an LTE version set to come this June.
Gionee will also be releasing the
device in 40 other markets through the year.
