Xiaomi isn’t slowing down. As we already know, instead of rolling out a 16 series, the company is skipping straight to the Xiaomi 17 line. The move was confirmed by Group President Lu Weibing during a livestream, where he also hinted at what’s coming next. It’s a strategy that keeps Xiaomi’s phones from feeling like small, predictable updates.

If rumors are valid, the 17 Ultra will lead the pack. That tracks with how Xiaomi has positioned its Ultra models in the past—as the flagship for people who care about cameras first. Every Ultra release so far has brought noticeable jumps in imaging hardware, and this year’s model looks set to do the same.

Certification Details

Paperwork from China’s SRRC shows a device with the model number 2512BPNDAC has cleared approval. This is understood to be the 17 Ultra. One feature stands out: Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support. UWB isn’t flashy, but it’s useful. It lets devices locate each other precisely, which makes file transfers smoother and device pairing almost instant. It also opens doors for smarter locks, car keys, and office tools.
This Chinese version won’t include satellite connectivity. That’s not a huge surprise, since the feature is less relevant for the local market.

Global Versions Take a Different Route

Outside China, things change. Two models—25128PNA1G and 25128PNA1C—are lined up for release with satellite communication built in. That’s a big step for Xiaomi and one that puts it in the same conversation as other manufacturers experimenting with off-grid connections.
For international users, satellite support makes sense. Think travelers, people in rural areas, or anyone who needs a backup when cell coverage drops out. Instead of just being about better photos, the Ultra is turning into a phone that can handle tougher, more critical situations.

Quick Breakdown

  • 2512BPNDAC: China-only, with UWB, no satellite link.
  • 25128PNA1G / 25128PNA1C: Global versions, include satellite connectivity.
  • 17 Ultra: Positioned once again as Xiaomi’s flagship for advanced imaging.
All told, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra looks like more than just another yearly refresh. By splitting features across markets—UWB at home, satellite abroad—the company is signaling it wants this series to stand out, not just keep pace.
