PortraitPlay from MediaTek brings beauty shot to video chat

Are you a morning person? The answer will vary, depending on whom you ask, but there’s no denying that the earliest part of the day doesn’t always bring out the best in us. If you’ve ever looked at yourself in the mirror after waking up, you can agree that the wake-up face is what you hope to put behind you throughout the remainder of the day.

Whether or not you can throw off your “morning face” as soon as you’d like, MediaTek is introducing its own face-enhancement technology known as PortraitPlay. As the name suggests, PortraitPlay is meant to correct your facial portrait when you’re video chatting in real time. The company’s own advert says that PortraitPlay works best when you’re video chatting in 1080p (Full HD) video mode. The goal of PortraitPlay is to refine your face so that “wake-up face” look doesn’t scare off your family, friends, and acquaintances. Just kidding.

MediaTek PortraitPlayPortraitPlay seems to work similar to beauty shot camera modes that are designed to enhance your facial features and “beautify” them a bit. The difference with PortraitPlay, however, is that it’s designed for video chat instead of simple camera shots.
