iPad Mini 8 Leak Points to OLED Display and A20 Pro Chip

Apple may be preparing its biggest iPad mini upgrade in years. The iPad mini 8 is expected to arrive as early as October, with an OLED display, a newer Pro chip and several design changes.

The OLED panel looks like the biggest change. But the chip could be just as important, with recent reports pointing to the A20 Pro. That detail is still unconfirmed, though. Earlier leaks suggested the A19 Pro instead.

The iPad mini 8 is widely expected to move from LCD to OLED.

That should bring deeper blacks, better contrast and richer colors. It would also make the small tablet a better choice for watching movies and editing photos.

There is still one big question: refresh rate.

One recent report claims the OLED iPad mini could remain at 60Hz. Other rumors have suggested ProMotion with up to 120Hz. For now, there is no clear answer.

Personally, I think 120Hz would make much more sense here. OLED would be a major upgrade, but keeping the screen at 60Hz could make the tablet feel less premium.

The current iPad mini uses the A17 Pro.

The next model should get a much newer chip. The latest leak points to the A20 Pro, while earlier reports identified the A19 Pro. Both would offer a clear performance boost over the current model.

The A20 Pro rumor is especially interesting because the chip is expected to power Apple's iPhone 18 Pro models.

Still, I would not call it confirmed yet. Apple can change its hardware plans before launch.

The iPad mini 8 could also get a redesigned body.

Apple is reportedly testing a more water-resistant casing. A new vibration-based speaker system could help make this possible by removing traditional speaker holes from the device.

The front camera may also move to the landscape edge, following the design used by newer iPad models.

These are small changes, but they could make the mini much nicer to use every day.

The current iPad mini starts at $599 in the US. Apple recently raised that price from $499.

An OLED panel and a newer Pro chip could push the iPad mini 8 even higher. There is no confirmed price yet.

If Apple launches it in October, we should not have to wait much longer for the answer.

For me, the OLED screen is the upgrade that matters most. Add a faster chip and better water resistance, and the iPad mini 8 could finally feel like a proper new generation rather than a simple refresh.
