A new Weibo account has been created by Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun, but it has a different name than we were expecting.
Chinese tech brands have been protecting their IP by creating Weibo accounts named after their latest products for a while now. Not only does it protect a product name, but it can also be cleverly used to tease an upcoming product too, resulting in news like this.
So today it has been discovered that Lei Jun has created a new Weibo account called “Xiaomi Pro”. This is rather interesting as the only upcoming device that could be labeled a ‘Pro’ phone is the Xiaomi Note 2, so then perhaps it has had a name change?
Gizchina News of the week
Xiaomi haven’t themselves released any details of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2/Xiaomi Pro, but there have been plenty of news reports attempting to fill in the blanks.
All of the reports we have seen though have a common theme, that being the new flagship Xiaomi phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 821 chipset, receive up to 6GB RAM, could have a curved screen and a flat screen option, boast a 3D touch display, and may even have dual rear cameras.
Well Sept-14 is around the corner. I guess let me stop reading about rumors and wait for the actual product coz I think its the first phone av ever really been inclined to and eagerly waited for.
gonna be expensive af
With the release of kernel sources for the Xiaomi Mi 5 its highly likely they will release for this phone as well. Active custom rom & kernel development ahoy 🙂
It can’t just be Xiaomi Pro, maybe Note Pro.
Hey Andi. Let me start by saying how much I appreciate all the work you guys do. I haven’t posted often but I’ve been lurking your site for a few years now, as it was the first relevant info point for me ever since Chinese phones became a serious alternative to big brand names.
However lately I find your site confusing and overstuffed with irrelevant information. Posting about rumors, unconfirmed leaks or publishing articles about video comparisons of the elephone’s S7 back cover to samsung’s S7, or about Umi torturing their phones etc, etc… it all seems pretty pointless.
The old format of anouncing a new phone and it’s release date followed by a quick hands-on video and then a full review was much better. Now if you type in a name of a phone in the search bar you are flooded with tons of posts about a single phone, most of them not really useful.
I believe you could reorganize your website, possibly with a “back to basics” approach.
Anyway best of luck in the future.
I agree with your opinion. I was complaining about the lack of reviews. Sometimes they have a hands-on and they say they will post a full review soon. But the review doesn’t come. But they are pretty up to date news wise.
Couldn’t agree more, Andi what’s the matter with old good website?
+1
Absolutely agree. I’m a regular reader as well of this site for years and in fact I bought my first Xiaomi phone (MI2), because of this site. But now it’s like some kind of a gossip magazine with everyday snippets of nothing.
HEAR HEAR ANDI !
