Xiaomi won’t release a flat screen Mi Note 2

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 specifications: OLED display

Those of you who recall rumours of a flat screen Xiaomi Mi Note 2 might be disappointed to learn that the device isn’t going to happen.

Xiaomi have launched so many phones this year that it is hard to keep up, but one that has been easy to remember (as I have one on test) is the Xiaomi Mi Note 2.

The Mi Note 2 launched fairly recently and is the first smartphone in the world to feature a curved glass rear panel that matches the curved display on the front. It’s a very attractive design, but all that curved glass isn’t cheap, hence the rumours of a flat screen model.

Gizchina News of the week

It was suggest at the time of launch that Xiaomi might launch a flat screen model (ala the Galaxy S7) to bring the same performance and build down to a lower price point however, this has been now been confirmed to be false.

In his Weibo account Xiaomi marketing director Zang Zhiyuan has confirmed the company has no plans to sell such a phone.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 features a Snapdragon 821 chipset, as much as 6GB RAM and a 5.7-inch AMOLED display. Our review of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is in the works and will be published soon.

Shame… I don’t understand this whole “curved screen FTW” trend. What is so good in a screen, that you look at, and see left/right distorted (or top/bottom if you hold a phone horizontally)? Does any of you like to play distorted games, watching distorted movie, or connect remotely to Windows or any other operating system having a bar on top/bottom, just to see that this bar is barely visible?

Having a curved screen phone makes you different, as other people have flat screen phones. You become great when you become different : you’re not a sheep anymore, you’re an individual. All Hail Samsung.
