Folding screen smartphones

Today, IHS Markit issued a message, ‘Making folding screen smartphones is much different from that of the traditional smartphones. Related technology has more requirements. Although in the first half of this year, the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X were announced, their launch has been delayed for a few times. But we still have a positive attitude towards the future folding screen smartphones market.’ As for now, IHS Markit expects that the number of folding screen shipments will reach 50 million by 2024.

The source said that in the first half of 2019, smartphone shipments declined compared with the first half of 2018. But the shipment of AMOLED screens did not decrease. And it is expected to increase by 30% in the second quarter of this year. This is mainly due to the decline in the price of AMOLEDs and the widespread acceptance of screen fingerprint recognition technology. With the continuation of fierce competition in the smartphone market, the niche will have further demand for the development of AMOLED technology. Therefore, in the first half of this year, some technologies such as LTPO, under-the-screen camera, and 3.5D cover glass have received extensive attention.

But as you know, this technology is not mature yet. So both companies are facing real problems with it. However, seems this is the future of smartphones. And if it is so, the forecast of IHS Markit is quite realistic.
