JiaYu G3 Now Using a Taiwan Screen Comparison Photos

The latest news from everyone’s (?) favourite Chinese phone brand is that the JiaYu G3 is getting its 4.5 inch screens from a Taiwan based supply. Keep reading for comparison photos of the new screen and the old JiaYu G3 screen.

The most exciting detail of the JiaYu G3 Chinese Android phone  isn’t the dual-core MediaTek MT6577 CPU, its 1GB RAM or 8 mega-pixel camera, but its 4.5 inch HD screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720!

JiaYu have now confirmed that they have chosen a new screen vendor, from Taiwan, and that they are extremely pleased with the brightness of the new screens when compared to the preproduction models.

Gizchina News of the week

jiayu g3 screen update

The photos here show an engineering version of the G3 (Black) and a production ready version with the new screen (silver).

As you can see the new screen on the silver JiaYu G3 is much brighter, even in a well-lit room, than the original screens which is good news for those still waiting for this low-cost Chinese phone.

The JiaYu G3 is a 899 Yuan ($140) Android smart-phone with a 4.5 inch display, dual-core MT6577 1Ghz CPU, 1GB RAM, 8 mega-pixel rear camera, 2750mAh battery and Android 4.0 OS.

That’s another piece of good news i suppose?. But are they any closer to an actual date that they can start to supply them ? will this new information delay the supply dates even more ? who knows ? 😀

Comon Jiayu give us the news we all want 😉 your killin us all !! 😀

It’s a shame they removed the brand logo.

wtf, i think that the left one is better

Thanks Andi for these great news! But in my opinion, the difference isnt that big. The pictures they have taken arent the best way to compare two screens. They should use some HQ photos or sth. like that and not the simple Android GUI. You can also see a less contrast ration in addition to the better brightness. Hopefully this impression is wrong 😉

@Will: I think the brand logo is moved to the back case. It is no longer carved on the metallic bottom part. Still waiting for the phone though.

I also prefer the left screen, it has better colours.

Anyway, I can’t really decide from one or two photos, what’s more important to me that the range of brightness should be extended.

Normally you don’t look at videos or pictures when having a sunbath, but rather in shady conditions. In addition, i prefer to have a ‘very dark’ setup when using my phone/tablet at night, without lighting up all the room and burning my retina even in the lowest setting.

Since we have waited for so long what if you inform them for us to include android 4.1 jellybean too. To me the old screen is better has higher contrast

The left screen does NOT have better contrast!
Don’t be misled by the overall brightness which is adjustable.
Try to compare how dark are darker colors and how bright are lighter colors.
Compare the range between black and white.

at least they keep improving it while they’re waiting. Is this still the gorilla screen though?

    this is sick
i mean this means that the phone is far from being released
and i read somewhere in the jiayu g3 forum that they will get the license on 10/10/2012 (but that is a user message not an official one)
    which is too late

i have a bad feeling about this
    hope i am wrong

    @Raby
Can you provide a link to that for others to read ? 🙂

well i did search the forum again and again but it seems like they post have been deleted by the forum manager
as they tend to remove what they don’t like
in this case this could make a lot of buyers like us cancel the preorder
    or it’s just a lie
but i do think there is something fishy about the JiaYu G3 that we don’t know yet

Think that we gonna have our phones for christmas ?

  17. September 20, 2012

As i know the license is already there, i thought andi has also said it in some of his post on this blog about the G3 phone..

The left screen has some more realistic colours, and look like it has better contrast.. but if you look at the black/white colors.. the right one is better..

its just hard to tell the difference from pictures, you need to check those things in reallife to see the really difference between both screens..

    • September 20, 2012

@Downstar nope I didn’t post anything about JiaYu getting the license still waiting like you guys….

  18. September 20, 2012

frankly to say i prefer any g3! i wont choose left r right one cause at 140$ i dnt expect 100% perfection and its too much of hearing frm jiayu! nw i need it in my hands else will drop the idea of buying g3 n go for sumtng else!

    Hi Andi,

Thanks for all the great posts about Jiayu G3. I also pre-ordered on September 5th and still waiting for official release. I’m very worried about this post: http://techideki.com/jiayu-g3-updates/ which says Jiayu G3 doesn’t have HD screen (1280×720) or Gorilla glass anymore. To be honest that’s the main reason I bought this phone. I already have a Zopo ZP100 which has a nice qHD screen (960×540) so I really wanted a screen update. Do you have any infos about the Jiayu G3 screen?

    Thanks

    Hi Andi,

Do you know sim compatibility about G3. Is it support micro sim card or standart ?

    September 21, 2012

I think that the right screen looks better. The left one shows a bluish tint which I noticed before on some Jiayu G3 reviews on youtube (the ones Jiayu G2 and G3 are side by side). Let’s only hope that the Jiayu G3 still has HD screen (1280×720) with Gorilla glass 🙂

I think the left one looks better. The other screen seems to have colours a bit washed.
But the problem could be my monitor colour calibration…

This phone is a joke, they advertise the screen resolution on 1280 x 720,
the 6577 does not support that resolution and jiayu g3 boost’s already with a quad, I bet we will never see either !!

So how is this going to work with the preorders since you could only order black white at the time and no silver? I think the silver was awesome but thought that was just a concept

It is now 26th September. On 3rd September you announced that official release date for the GY G3 was 5th September I have a had one on pre-order since 6th September. When if ever will this phone be available? On AliExpress I will have to wait another 6 weeks before they “have to” give my money back, will I see the phone before they give my money back?.

    • September 26, 2012

@Plascoch I know as much as you do regarding the G3. I guesstimate mid to late November.
